Shaking Things up.

Intersectionality is the idea that different forms of oppression, such as racism, sexism, homophobia, and ableism, intersect and compound each other, creating unique marginalization experiences for individuals with multiple marginalized identities. In spaces meant to promote emotional well-being, it is essential to recognize and address the ways in which intersectionality impacts individuals' experiences and access to wellness.

Yoga is a prime example, as it is often marketed and perceived as a practice for white, thin, able-bodied, and affluent individuals. A Black woman may face unique challenges in accessing and participating in wellness spaces due to racism and sexism. She may face microaggressions from instructors or other participants, experience a lack of representation and inclusivity in marketing and programming, and feel excluded from the dominant culture of wellness.

Infinitely Fluid believes it is crucial for wellness spaces and yoga communities to recognize and address the ways in which systemic oppression, such as racism, sexism, and homophobia, impact the well-being of queer BIPOC. We pride ourselves in incorporating social justice and intersectional perspectives into yoga classes and workshops, offering trauma-informed classes that acknowledge the impact of oppression on mental health, and creating safe spaces for queer BIPOC to share their experiences and connect with others.

By valuing intersectionality in wellness spaces, Infinitely Fluid, intends to promote a more inclusive and equitable culture of wellness that recognizes and honors the diversity of all individuals who seek to improve their well-being.
